A funeral was held on the 20th for the late Joo Seok-joong (59), a professor in the Department of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery at Asan Medical Center in Seoul, who died in an unexpected car accident.

This morning, a funeral ceremony was held at the funeral hall of Asan Medical Center in Songpa-gu, Seoul, with the deceased's family, colleagues, and acquaintances in attendance.

Kim Seung-hu, dean of the Ulsan University College of Medicine, who was in charge of the investigation, said, "What was so urgent that you left so suddenly? There is no way to contain your sorrow," and remembered, "The people around Professor Joo were peaceful due to the kindness of Professor Joo, who cared for others first."

Professor Kim Hong-rae, who was with the deceased as a colleague in Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery, said in his memorial address, "The doctor did his best for the patients in any situation, and delivered new life and comfort to the patients." “It was a great happiness,” he said.

He also said his final greetings to the deceased, saying, "I will do my best for the patients in honor of the teacher's wishes," and "I hope in heaven you will be comfortable without being woken up at night by emergency calls."

At the funeral, there were artificial flowers sent by President Yoon Seok-yeol, Minister of Health and Welfare Cho Gyu-hong, and Asan Foundation Chairman Chung Mong-joon to commemorate the deceased.

Professor Joo died on the 16th after being hit by a dump truck that was turning right while riding his bicycle on a road near Asan Medical Center in Seoul. As the director of the Aortic Disease Center at the Heart Hospital of Asan Medical Center in Seoul, he has practiced medicine in specialized fields with high work intensity, such as aortic disease and aortic valve stenosis.
